Fleeing suspect lands in briar patch
BIG SPRINGS – A suspect running from a deputy gave up after landing in a briar patch.
According to the report from Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy got behind a speeding Honda motorcycle on County Road 87. It was late at night, but the cyclist turned off his lights in the middle of the road, so the deputy turned on his emergency lights to stop the motorcycle.
The cyclist turned into a driveway on County Road 34 near Big Springs, laid the bike down and ran on foot to the back side of a house. The deputy began chasing him on foot. The suspect jumped a barbed-wire fence and a second barbed-wire fence before falling into a briar patch.
At that point, he began complying with the deputy’s instructions and also revealed the contents of his backpack.
Timothy Truman Harmon Jr., 32, of 3408 County Rd. 14 Roanoke, was arrested on Feb. 15 and charged with possession of a controlled substance, certain persons forbidden to carry a pistol and attempting to elude law enforcement.
Burglary at Deb’s
A burglary was reported on Feb. 16 at Deb’s Food Mart on County Road 87 in Graham. Beer and cigarettes were stolen.

Twenty sheets of tin were reported stolen from a location on County Road 628 near Big Springs on Feb. 16.
A tractor battery and hammer were reported stolen on Feb. 20 from County Road 628 near Big Springs.
A resident reported on Feb. 20 that he is selling a white 1994 F-150 truck to someone but they have just stopped making payments to him.
A break-in was reported on Feb 18 on County Road 16 in the Center Chapel area.
Financial exploitation of an elderly person was reported on Feb. 18.
A Rock Mills resident reported insurance fraud when she discovered additional information and individuals added to her insurance policy.
A squatter was reported on Feb. 20 on Lakeside Drive in the Twin Lakes subdivision. The owner reported the individual did work on the property and then moved in. He was given time to get up his belongings and then taken by a deputy to another location.
