Hassie Boozer Taylor
OAKLAND, Calif.) A graveside service for Hassie Boozer Taylor, 89, of Oakland, Calif. (formerly of Anniston), was at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2022, at Eden Hills Cemetery with the Rev. Levi Lyles officiating.
Viewing will be from 3 to 8 p.m. on Friday in the chapel of Goodson Funeral Home.
Mrs. Taylor passed away Jan. 29 in Oakland.
She was born Oct. 16, 1932, in Wedowee, eldest child of the late Daniel and Willie Boozer. Mrs. Taylor attended Randolph County Training School and earned her bachelor’s from Alabama A&M University in Huntsville and her master’s from Jacksonville State University. She moved to Anniston in the early 1950s and married the late Bennie Lee Taylor Sr. Mrs. Taylor taught in Anniston City Schools for 30 years. She was a member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. Taylor moved back to Wedowee in 2003, where she joined the Methodist church and seniors’ group. She returned to Anniston in 2013. Mrs. Taylor moved to Oakland with son Maurice in 2016 after the passing of her mother-in-law, Louise Stephens. She became a member of New Beginning Missionary Baptist Church.
She is survived by her son, Maurice Taylor of Oakland; siblings, Van Boozer and Annie Boozer, both of Dayton, Ohio, Lim Boozer of LaGrange, Ga., and Minnie Brandon (John) of New York; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Bennie Lee Taylor Jr.; daughter, Janice Taylor-Young; stepdaughter, Rosie Mae Chappell; and grandson, Ronald Lynn Young Jr.
