Donald Phipps

(ROANOKE) Donald Phipps, 71, of Main Street, Roanoke, passed away Sunday, Feb. 7, 2022, at UAB Hospital, Birmingham.

Viewing will be Monday, Feb. 14, from 1 to 6 p.m. at Clark Memorial Funeral Service.

The funeral will be Tuesday, Feb. 15, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Skyview Memorial Gardens in the Welch community.

Mr. Phipps was born May 2, 1950, in Brooklet, Ga., to the late Elga Howard Phipps and Mattie Louise Joyner Phipps. He graduated in 1969 from Cypress Lake High School in Fort. Myers, Fla. Donald worked for ZEP Construction, building bridges throughout Florida. After 20 years, he went to work in maintenance for Bonita Rentals. At 47, Donald married the love of his life, Abby, on Valentine’s Day 1997 in Bonita Springs, Fla. He loved fishing and gardening. The family moved to Roanoke 14-1/2 years ago from Rockland County, N.Y. Donald spent his last six years before retirement as janitor at First Baptist.

He is survived by his wife, Abby Phipps of Roanoke; children, Patrick Robinson (Melissa) of San Antonio, Texas, and Christopher Robinson (Molly) and Shannon Savage (Louis), both of Roanoke; brother, James Phipps (Pat); and sister, Dorothy Byran (Bobby) of Naples, Fla.; other relatives and friends. Donald was preceded in death by his sisters, Betty Jean Robinson of Fruithurst and Mary Sheremeta of Heflin.
