Roanoke man arrested, charged with attempted murder after shots fired
A Roanoke man was arrested Saturday evening, charged with attempting to kill his aunt.
Just after 6 p.m., Roanoke Police officers responded to a call on Overton Mountain Drive in which shots were fired and a woman was wounded. The armed suspect was then said to have been trying to get into the residence.
When officers arrived, Jonathan David Simons, 22, of 182 Pool St., was unarmed, but told them the gun he had fired was in the trunk of his car.
The victim, Donna Simons Gore, 52, had two shotgun wounds to her shin and calves.
The back glass of her car had been shot out, and there were bullet holes in the tailgate. Gore’s daughter and two young grandchildren were in the house during the incident.
The victim told police family members are arguing over an inheritance.
Simons has been charged with attempted murder.
