Fires

A Birmingham man’s black 2007 Chevrolet Silverado truck burned on Dec. 21 on U.S. 431 at Needham’s Hill. Rock Stand Volunteer Fire Department responded and put out the fire. Leonard Coleman told RCSO he had just gotten a new transmission and wondered if that was the problem.

Matthew and Deanna Robinson of County Road 91 in Rock Mills reported a fire on Dec. 23 at 2:30 a.m. Deanna got up to go to the bathroom, smelled smoke and discovered the kitchen on fire. The fire department responded and damage was limited to the kitchen.

A fire in a wood stove destroyed an outbuilding and damaged a residence on Dec. 20 on Highway 48 in the Ofelia area. Jason Randal Barnett told responders he believes it started from the stovepipe. The fire damaged the vinyl siding of the nearby house.

A residence on County Road 240 was possibly struck by lightning at around 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 30. The house was filled with smoke, but damage was limited to the left side of the residence.

Vehicle in creek

A truck was swept away into a rushing creek on Dec. 30 in the Hobson community. According to the report from RCSO, Ethan Kelley was driving his silver 2019 Toyota Tacoma to a chicken house on County Road 59. He cut through County Road 673 where he is usually able to drive through the creek, but that day it was uncrossable and the truck was swept away. Kelley and two passengers were able to get out of the truck without injuries. The truck was taken about half a mile downstream, where it was not reachable by first responders.

Thefts

A resident of County Road 419 in the Ava community reported finding a wrecked side-by-side in his pasture. The vehicle had been driven through a fence. It was found to have been stolen in Wedowee.

A video and audio equipment and tools were reported stolen from a residence on U.S. 431 at Needham’s Hill on Dec. 26.

A maroon 2001 Dodge Durango was reported stolen on Dec. 22 from County Road 131 near Welcome Home Church.

Other incidents

The owner of a camper County Road 131 near Welcome Home Church discovered the doors broken open, damage to the camper and someone else’s belongings there on Dec. 20. The floors had been ripped up, and all the wiring in the walls removed. The bathroom wall was missing entirely. An ID was found at the scene.

A vehicle stolen in Cleburne County was found wrecked with no one nearby on Dec. 29 on County Road 413 in Newell.

A resident of Circle Drive in Twin Lakes subdivision reported on Jan. 2 that a subject had broken a glasstop outdoor table.

The tires were cut on Dec. 29 on a gray 2005 Nissan Altima located on County Road 110 near Graham.

The exterior door to a motor home was found damaged on Dec. 30 on County Road 87 in Roanoke.

The door to a residence on County Road 59 near Tip Shop was found busted in on Dec. 31.
