A Roanoke police officer witnessed the hit-and-run accident in the wee hours of Sunday morning and pulled over the fleeing driver.

According to the report from Roanoke Police Department, Lorne Keith Cunningham, 43, of Ohatchee had four passengers in his 2008 Dodge Megacab. The driver of the Dodge struck a 1996 Ford Bronco, driven by Timothy Wayne Pollard, 43, of 222 County Rd. 671, Roanoke, in the rear as it was attempting to turn into the Huddle House parking lot, then continued north on U.S. 431.

The office pulled over Cunningham in front of Bank of Wedowee. It was apparent to the officer that several of the occupants, along with the driver, had been drinking. The driver was charged with DUI and leaving the scene of an accident.

A passenger, Herbert Blake Lackey Jr., 50, of Ohatchee was charged with possession of a concealed weapon.

Attempted vehicle theft

Leon Linson Jr., 35, of 554 Border St., Roanoke, is charged with public intoxication and attempted first-degree theft of an automobile at the apartments on Seymour Drive.

Colquette Letreace Watkins, 28, of 232 Chestnut St., Roanoke, had left her 2003 Mercedes running outside the apartments. She was going to go outside to shut off her car to wait for a babysitter so that her friend could go with her.

Watkins saw her reverse lights on and went up to the passenger side window screaming at Linson, asking him what he was doing in her vehicle. She told him she was calling the police, and Linson got out and tried to flee the scene.
